The North Sydney Bears are one of the foundation clubs of rugby league in Australia, formed in 1908 and known originally as the Shoremen — a name that reflected the work and life on Sydney’s lower north shore waterfront. For generations, the Bears have represented the families of North Sydney, the loyal fans who’ve stuck by their club through thick and thin, through the highs and the bitter lows, including the heartbreak of being left out of the NRL in 1999. Known simply as “the Mighty Bears,” this club has a fanbase that’s renowned for its loyalty — three generations of families turning out at North Sydney Oval in red and black, keeping the spirit alive for 25 years and counting.
