The Western Reds were the pioneers — the team that brought elite rugby league to Western Australia for the first time, debuting in the ARL competition in 1995 and proving that the game could thrive beyond the eastern states. They represented Perth and the vast expanse of the west, a club that dared to dream big and, for a brief but glorious moment, put rugby league on the map in a state that was mad for the oval ball. Though the Reds folded in 1997 after the Super League war, their legacy lives on in the hearts of WA fans who still remember the red, black and white, and who’ve been campaigning for the game’s return to the west ever since.
